: Youtube trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYdvDpyHnCw Youtube long demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clGfikjfNSE Available on Gumroad: https://gabyboncan.gumroad.com/l/txlkbg This application simulates both solar and lunar eclipses across a 30.000 years. (from 13.000 BC to 17.000 AD). I made this project as my Bachelor thesis at National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucuresti. From a young, I was fascinated by how big the Universe actually is and by astronomy. This project combines Python programming (I used Skyfield for celestial bodies placement and Geopy for identifying a location by its coordinates), Unreal Engine 5.7., a bit of knowledge about geometry of solar and lunar eclipses, and, of course, data from NASA (JPL DE441.bsp for precise placement of Sun, Moon and planets and catalogues for solar and lunar eclipses from John Irwin). Compared to other projects, this project is different, because it renders 3D umbra and penumbra cones with high geometric accuracy, it works in 3D with realistic landscapes from Cesium for any place on Earth and users can browse of list of thousands of cities where they can actually the eclipse. Moreover, Earth is represented as WGS84 ellipsoid rather than a sphere, which measurably shifts shadow intersection points, especially near the poles Key features: -2 large catalogues with 71.264 solar eclipses and 72.272 lunar eclipses, option to filter eclipses by year, magnitude and type. -each eclipse has a list of cities from where the eclipse can be seen, press on the button "View" and watch the eclipse from that specific point on Earth -Earth is rendered with high accuracy using Cesium 2.22.1 (plugin for Unreal Engine) -there are options to watch the shaded band (totality path across Earth), the projection of Moon umbra and Penumbra cones and the cones themselves (that also includes Antumbra for annular eclipses). -full control over time, place, the user can also save bookmarks and edit weather using weather settings (fog, cloud density and altitude, snow and rain). -validated with Xavier Jubier website for eclipses from 2026, 2027 with a maximum error of 1.7 seconds -using a Hash Grid model, I modelled the Moon surface. In order to calculate C1-C4 moments with high precision during solar eclipses, I also considered lunar limb.
