    Founder here!

Borehole reads a repo's git history, simulating the processes I took doing technical due diligence at Amazon for many years. After adding nearly 1000 public repos, I did some analysis: across the these public projects in its library, we counted commits that declare an AI agent as co-author (a Co-authored-by line naming Claude, Copilot, Cursor, Devin and so on), year by year.

Most of you know that last weekend r/opensource barred projects made with AI. This page counts how much declared AI is already in established projects.

Analysis showed that in 2026 the average project declares an AI agent on about 9% of its commits, against about 1% in 2025. Projects started since 2025 declare the most.

    Before you trust the numbers:

    - It's a floor. Only declared co-authorship counts. Undeclared use is invisible, and a rebase or squash can drop the line.

    - The library isn't a random sample. It's what people surveyed plus projects I added, weighted toward companies that ship open source, most all of which are very popular projects.
