I imagine amongst this crowd that I won't be the only one who refuses to give up my biometrics to X to continue to use it. Otherwise, I enjoyed my 19-ish years on Twitter.

I mean, I get it... but having principles is _hard_ - and I'm definitely not perfect; but I'm not about to knowingly support the owner of a company actively undermining democracy, enabling corruption, and just being a general piece of shit (nazi salutes, and most recently, lashing out at the Delta CEO because he called him names? Come on, snowflake).

Sorry John Gruber rather have his tech fix than standing up for what's right, I guess.

Twitter is 20 years old. I don't have an account but it seems to be bigger than ever: what makes you think it won't be big anymore in 10 years?

        It's more statements like

        > The culture on X today is remarkably friendly and inclusive. It is a cheerful place.

That does not describe any social media platform, they are not designed and optimized that way, that's the algorithmic manipulation coming through.

Ceasing the use of these platforms is a top life decision for me, many people say the same thing when they give them up. I hope we seem more small social platforms in the future.

I don't have an account on it either. I watched everyone go all-in on the Dorsey phase, and then get embarrassed by his Bitcoin madness and NFT profile pictures.

Then I watched the Musk affair take over, and now the website is a blatantly obvious US government honeypot. It probably still will exist in 10 years, but be embroiled in some sort of site-redefining drama that everyone takes personally yet refuses to do anything about. The "Twitter/X is finally good again" posts will age like fine wine in retrospect, they're always self-serving and empty.
