Anyone who isn't owned by an AI lab will close the gates to safeguard monetization techniques. It'll be left to users to decide whether they want to fund AI or fund independent shops and communities, but the awareness threshold will not improve. A majority of people will pick convenience and centralization over principles as they always do, and the visible fraction within society of pro and against AI will keep growing and, unless AI starts profit-sharing, giving back or delivering on its promises, that won't lead to anything good.

i dont get it. independent shops you mean airbnb?

its really interesting question about "independent shops" as separated topic, i guess they actually going to benefit from this no?

I mean independent as in without dependencies on AI labs.

And they might benefit through increased sales, but they will lose every other monetization avenue they had (visits, related items, data, etc). How does "the AI industry as a whole" reward all the shops of a given item and not just one consistently? That just sounds like SEO and AdWords with a different engine
