Perhaps the author is too young to remember all the cool science fiction and TV series (Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and so on) that dealt with this issue.

We still have gigantic human problems that go unaddressed, I think, because people are now living in a virtual world (A Matrix of sorts) divorced from real world problems. And fantasy engines are the answer to their virtual world problems.

I guess that Jonathan Swift addressed them as well, with the Laputans, [0]

    > The inhabitants of Laputa appear to be people completely cut off from life. They are so deep in abstract thoughts that their wives cheated on them all over and over, and servants have to periodically clap ‘thinkers’ over faces with bull’s bubbles and bring them back to reality.

    > And science, devoid of morality and high purpose, is simply dangerous.

    May be AI. Seems disconnected.

I think this is a pretty bad take. How is anyone going to cultivate that personal taste, judgement and experience when all of their media is homogenized slop, all of our their work is done for them by agents, and all of their questions are answered by LLMs?

People who grew up without LLMs still have it, for now, but for how much longer? Deskilling is already becoming a serious problem and it's only going to get worse the longer people continue to delegate their intelligence to machines that can't even think.

      I agree.

Reminds me of how impossible it is to find people that act like adults now.
