I recently found myself observing a wonderful summer thunderstorm near Salida, Colorado, USA, and wondered if I could record it and sync it up to publicly available radar data. This ended up being way less trivial than I thought it would be, so I wrote up the process.

One very surprising finding is that because the data are a blend of radar stations, some acquisitions can be up to 10 minutes late relative to the file timestamp. Doing some more digging I found that apparently delay has been the cause of aviation accidents before!
