The Coleco ADAM was a weirdly overengineered machine that had a heavy case only equalled by the old IBM Pentium 3 machine that I had my development copy of arXiv on. The high cost of floppy drives was a big problem in the early 1980s and there were a few home computers that tried unusual solutions, not least the Digital Data Pack on the ADAM which was a modified cassette drive that could be rewound/fast-forwarded under program control.
