Which only suggests that SNAP recipients drank just as much soda as Americans in general, because 12% of population are on SNAP.
And it also suggests that they were not all that addicted to it since when it stopped being free, they stopped buying it.
- If you can buy sugar on SNAP you can just make Kool-Aid, with 2 or 3 cups of sugar per gallon instead of one if that's your taste. Or you can get the powdered tea or lemonade and make super sweet tea/lemonade. Maybe it's slightly healthier.
- At my local Wal-mart, across from the soda aisle is the juice aisle. There's some "healthy" juices like apple, and grape, but also Hawaiian Punch, Sunny D, and their generic equivalents. These are basically high fructose corn syrup with a few flavorings and dyes. These might still be SNAP eligible since they're juices and not soda.
Quite logical, however there is a possibility that major consumers merely stopped buying the ones not containing caffeine, so the addictions component may not be as clear as it could be.
I read that Americans used to drink milk. Whole milk.
Maybe Make America Drink Milk Again.
