Do you want to know why there are a lot of rounded rectangles on things in the physical world? They’re easier and nicer to handle from a tactile perspective. Rounded corners make perfect sense on tables, furniture, and even phones.

I'm not a fan of rounded rectangles in apps/interfaces and sometimes it can even obscure issues: e.g. an image where there’s a visual artifact or problem with the corners.
I like Bill's initial response to Steve... "No, there's no way to do that. In fact it would be really hard to do, and I don't think we really need it". Classic developer response when their code is called out. lol
