Indeed. Particularly when traveling, I often look for just several bytes of information (an address, when the ferry leaves, etc.), yet the websites contain several megabytes. Frustrating & slow.
Google Maps is interesting because it has offline mode, but doesn't seem to use its stored data when you're online. It will try to download map tiles it should already have.
You have to go offline to get the faster experience!
