    Some points:

    - America has historically been pretty awful at looking after the weak and vulnerable in its society compared to other western societies. The homelessness, widespread lack of basic education, and medical-debt bankruptcy hits hard when it strikes.

    - American society suffered through a pandemic that killed off a lot of those weak and vulnerable, who traditionally died young anyway. Now they're prematurely dead and a healthier cohort remains.

    - There hasn't been time yet for the general malaise within American society towards the weak and vulnerable to "top up" to its carrying capacity.

    - You really ought to expect the average life expectancy to rise under those circumstances. Nothing meaningful has changed, it's just maths.
