I joined during the private beta and already gave up on it about a month ago. I ran into too many users that brought their Reddit toxicity with them. I couldn't take it. It looks like I only lasted a month; it seemed to start off OK, but went downhill quickly.
I see they launched the custom communities now, that didn't exist yet the last time I visited. Just scrolling through the front page, it looks like there is even less activity than when it was private, which seems concerning.
That’s the thing with these social network nostalgia projects. People don’t want to admit that the we have changed. I remember getting quite excited by and later disillusioned by BlueSky. As good-intentioned as people claim to be, they all bring their learned behaviours with them when they set up camp. All these new places do is end up being another venue for people to be dicks to one-another. The massive social deprogramming we have to do is going to be much slower and much more complex than simply building a platform with ‘better mechanics’ or whatever, and I doubt it’s going to happen any time soon if at all.
No idea what the tech behind this site is, or what server(s) it's running on, but kind of clearly not enough for the hug of death it seems to be getting... can't really even use it (slow).

I used to like Digg and enjoy the podcast a lot.

I loved digg too.
So weird it’s HOD. Scaling tech much easier with modern infra.
Still hoping hacker news front pages my Rick and Morty inter-dimensional cable inspired news site someday.
I am old enough to remember the first two relaunches. I think this is the third relaunch right since it was beaten by Reddit.

How has Kevin Rose escaped legal ramifications from all of his NFT grifts he hawked in the past few years?
If celebrities can hawk rug pull crypto coins, I seriously doubt there will be any legal ramifications for him.
