I wrote a similar utility but I append the data to a particular .jpg file in my extensive photo collection. The photo displays as normal and the date/time remains unchanged following a save.
Because that is not how adversarial activity has ever worked, or ever will work, but unfortunately it is how most people - who are irrational, unprepared and lacking a threat model - think it works.

Because security through obscurity is a 19th century maxim which is objectively ineffective at guarding secrets?
The security can remain exactly the same --- only the location is being obscured.
Why make it easier to find when there is no need to do so?
