People developing AI get $5m while those preventing it from going off the rails get 10x less. What could go wrong?

Most likely, the moral and spiritual costs of this work will lead to isolation, depression and deep resentment later in life, which no amount of money fully remedies.
FWIW, preventing AI from doing anything useful has been ~one order of magnitude easier than getting good results from it.
