Oddly, Someone at my local church asked me if I was autistic just this week!
Of course I am not autistic. I have been wondering how a member of the church came up with the idea that a retired psychotherapist might be autistic.
I have considered that she may have a family member who has been diagnosed with autism and saw similar behaviours in me. I am after all, a very annoying introvert.
How could a lay person, think, that it is OK to diagnose a complete stranger, or even assume, that I was on the spectrum with something, which is usually only accessible via professionals browsing the old DSM-5, without any training in the field.
How would she have felt if I had diagnosed her with a life threatening veterinary disease like Canine distemper.
I digress. Though I must say the spectrum has rather expanded over my 20 years as a psychotherapist.
In the mid 90's autism diagnosis was pretty much for the non verbal, Now its seems that an annoying introvert like me can easily get on the autistic spectrum. Even a church member can diagnose me.
All my young colleagues will be out of a job, dont worry about ai taking, clinical psychologists, psycotherapists and psychiatrists jobs, worry about the lay person at church. Diagnosis is free there, no medical qualification required.
For me, its the same for people promoting autism online. They are promoters, they get paid.
If this behaviour, thought, action, task, belief, happens to you, Welcome! you must be autistic, Thanks, for that, I will definitely take on board that new label as my own.
I was looking for a new label to answer all my existential questions, because life has been shit lately.
Wicked, I am now autistic, I have the same symptoms as the autistic promoter. I'll Shoot down the GP's office in the morning and get some meds and life will be great again.
Finally an answer! damn it, I just saw the "May"
