    A quick note that content entering the public domain isn't any kind of a gift. It is the (long, purposefully delayed) fulfillment of an obligation to the public.

    It's an obligation that has had it's terms rewritten many times since the original agreement

        rewritten to always to take more from the public and
        never give anything in return (to those it took from).
    
    Copyright started out as a reasonable bargain but has evolved into a powerful force, tightly guided by exploitive, unethical principles.
