In cold climates, indoor humidity needs to be lowered before a deep freeze hits. Most smart thermostats and humidistats react only to the current outdoor temperature (or an outdoor sensor), which can be too late during sudden overnight cold snaps.
I built a small web tool looks at the coldest temperature expected over the next 72 hours and recommends a safe indoor humidity level. The idea is to make humidity control predictive rather than reactive, helping reduce window frost and hidden condensation. It’s manual by design — you check it every couple of days and adjust your humidistat if needed.
Built after running into this issue myself in Alberta, where temperatures can swing quickly.
